KEEP YOUR VINYL RECORDS SAFE
KEEP YOUR VINYL RECORDS SAFE
*This is a concept course.
Overview
This microlearning module was created for a college course about the history of music consumption from 1900 to present day. This module was created specifically for the unit covering the 1930's, when vinyl records were first used by radio stations.
"The Pain"
Based on both a written and an in-person pre-assessment, all 17 students could easily define "vinyl records", safely play and stop playing records using a record player, safely remove records from their casings, and safely restore records to their casings.
However, students were not knowledgeable in long-term care for vinyl records. Lack of care can cause harm to records, such as warping and scratching.
Solution
This microlearning module, Keep your Vinyl Records Safe, served as students' first training in the subject.
An in-person training and assessment were implemented during the next class after they had completed this microlearning module. Each student practiced cleaning a record safely and effectively, based on their knowledge from this microlearning module.
Results and Post-Training Evaluation
15 students passed the module on their first try, receiving a 100%.
Two students used two tries, and passed with 100%. When asked why they thought it took two tries, each said they didn't read answers carefully enough. For example, two answers both had the word, "circle" or "circular" in them, and they chose the first answer they saw without reading the full answer.
In a survey all 17 students reported that they felt "mostly prepared" or "very prepared" for their in-person training.
After the in-person training, all 17 students passed their in-person assessment on their first try.
